Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time to book my 3D ultrasound?

When your pregnancy is greater than 24 weeks, facial features are more developed. Images can be obtained between 20-36 weeks of pregnancy. We recommend that your session be booked between 24-33 weeks. Full-figured mothers may wish to consider making an appointment after 26 weeks gestation. Twins and triplets are usually best between 21-24 weeks, when we will have a better view of each baby.

Can I find out what gender my baby is?

Yes. This information can be given to the parents upon request, or if the gender is to remain a surprise, that can also be done for you. If you would like the gender written down on a slip of paper to be revealed at a later time, that is possible also. After 16 weeks, and with adequate fetal positioning, will give the ultrasonographer the best assessment.

Should I make an appointment in advance?

Yes, appointments should be made as early as possible for you to obtain a weekend or evening appointment, as these are the most popular times.

What preparation is needed? Do I need a full bladder?

NO, you do not need a full bladder. This is not a diagnostic test. A small meal or something sweet about ½ hour before your appointment may help to get the baby moving.

Who performs the ultrasound sessions?

Experienced, qualified ultrasonographers with experience and training in obstetrical ultrasound and the proper operation of ultrasound equipment perform the imaging procedure. We pride ourselves on our staff and their attention to customer service and quality images.

What is 3D/4D scanning?

3D ultrasound offers clear, high resolution images of your baby. With adequate amniotic fluid, adequate position, and a clear “window” around the placenta, images of the baby’s face are similar to an actual photograph! The fourth dimension, time, allows us to watch the baby moving in real time.

Is 3D ultrasound safe?

Yes, ultrasound has been safely used in obstetrics for over 30 years. This is the same technology that is used in 2D conventional scanning.

Parent Understanding

Your 3D ultrasound session is for entertainment purposes only. We do not provide diagnostic information. We request that your routine 18-20 week diagnostic ultrasound scan be completed (as ordered by your health care provider) and that you have received the results before your 3D ultrasound. We do not provide measurements, fetal weight, or any other diagnostic information. You must be under the care of a midwife or physician to use our service, and we feel that these professionals should address any concerns about your pregnancy.
